LENTEN FAST AND ABSTINENCE REGULATIONS

Posted by Mary Mother of Mankind on February 7, 2018 at 3:35 PM

LENTEN FAST AND ABSTINENCE REGULATIONS

Ash Wednesday and the Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat (for those 14 and older). Also Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are fast days (for those between the ages of 18 and 59). No solid foods are eaten between meals and only one full meal is consumed. Those who are seriously ill are excused from these regulations.

The purpose of fasting in the Judeo-Christian tradition is to assist us in understanding what it is like to be hungry so that we might become more compassionate toward those who suffer from the pains of hunger each day. In so doing, the hope is that we will be moved to action and share our resources, food, and money with the hungry and the poor within our own community and elsewhere.

The focus of the season of Lent is the renewal of our faith, which manifests itself in charity.
